[sure he could do this in person, but Dio was asleep at the time he was worrying about it, so rather than wait for him to get up, Jonathan leaves him a message so that he'd come talk to him later about it.]

How do you know if someone's gone for good?

You don't.

You can only just assume by them not sending back responses and when they dont appear to be at home?

[dioception]

I suppose that's how you do it.

...This is about Josuke.

Yes.

[dioception]

He's gone, Jonathan.

[He's probably as upset as Jonathan. Maybe a little less, because Dio's feelings were just not that strong in general.]

Would you like to talk about it?

[rayofsunlight]

Yes, please. I'm in the bedroom.

[He'll also be all teary all over you almost immediately so have fun with that, Dio.]

[Yeah, but Dio is prepared for that, and while he's certainly not teary-eyed, Dio looks obviously dejected as he enters the room, making for the bed so that he could lean on Jonathan.

He would probably not admit to the relationship that he had with Josuke, but he'd be more willing to admit to at least having some manner of affection for the kid. He wasn't going to start talking immediately, just holding onto Jonathan for now.]

[Jonathan immediately holds on to Dio tightly, face pressing against his shoulder and wetting it with silent tears save for an occasional sniffle. He lets a long silence pass with them holding each other before he bothers to say anything, voice cracking just a little.]

I feel like I didn't get to know him nearly well enough before he left...

[dioception]

[Dio didn't break the silence, only moving to put a hand on Jonathan's back, holding him in an embrace.]

He was a good kid, Jojo. Reminded me a lot of you.

Did he ever tell you any stories about himself? He talked about a little with me, but...

[There was still so much more to be said, to be experienced. He knew his father was Joseph and that he was his grandson, that Speedwagon had taken care of the family, that Joseph's grandson Jotaro had met Josuke...]

[They had never been so close as to swap stories about themselves, really, though Dio had gleaned a little bit from what he HAD learned.]

Mmhh... He's from... from about a decade or so after I... [After he died. He was still having trouble with that bit of information.]

I think he said he'd gotten very sick as a child, and a friend of his had a family member that I'd influenced, apparently. He didn't speak much about himself or his life before Between.

I can't believe a hundred years after I was gone plus a decade after that where you were gone too, you still were finding ways to influence the world.

[He's teasing Dio to make things a little lighter, but at the same time he WAS pretty surprised about that.]

He had a Stand too, right? What was his like?

[dioception]

[Really, neither of them could possibly know how far Dio's influence extended. Dio doesn't seem to crack a smile though, he was never the sort to use humor to make himself feel better when he was upset.]

It looked somewhat like my own, but it's power was to heal things. [Fitting, he supposed. How very like a descendant of Jonathan's.]

He'd come to help me when I was torn apart in the catacombs, even knowing who I am, and what I'd done.

[Ah well, at least he tried. Jonathan seemed rather tickled by the idea of his stand though, definitely coming to the same thought as Dio himself about the matter — what a good group of men, his descendants were.]

I'm glad someone like Josuke was in your life. He was a good man, through and through... I'd like to think that he's merely back home for now with his friends and loved ones, with whatever that entails in this place. Plus, I've read that sometimes people come back...

[dioception]

[Dio seems to sink a little more at that. Yeah. Wouldn't it be nice to just... go back. But he spouses that nothing would exist there for Jonathan and himself. They are dead.]

I'd grown fond of him.

I wonder though... what would happen to us, should we disappear?

...I don't know.

[If only he did, honestly.]

What makes the end of the world so special as to let us both live? I don't understand it in the least.

[dioception]

[Dio has his theories, but few of them would be any comfort to Jonathan. He'd go with the best one for now.]

Fate, Jonathan. That's all I can imagine.

...I'd... wanted to see if we can make this world a paradise. Perhaps you are here to assist me in that endeavor?

Try to make this world a better place?

[Wow, he wouldn't have expected helping everyone make this place better to be a goal of his... maybe he really was growing up.]

Of course I'd want to help you make this place a paradise, Dio. If I had to choose a reasoning for me to be here, that's certainly a nice thought for as to why. Helping everyone get running water and power would be a nice start...

[Of course he wants this world to be a better place! Look at everything here. It's garbage. And Dio has to live here. Uuugh!

No way, if he has to exist alongside of these pieces of shit, he intends to make it at least a decent place to live.

And with Jonathan's agreement, he turns his head up to look toward him with a smile.]

It would be. I just wonder how...

Well, there was obviously a source of water and power here somewhere before, if we start there with finding it and fixing it, everything else will be much easier to have fall into place.

[He leans over to press a soft kiss against Dio's mouth.]

Wasn't there talk of an aqueduct in need of fixing? That's our water source right there.
