It's not bad to love more than one person. Like I said, there's all kinds of love. And loyalty can mean a lot of different things, to different people.

That's why you have to talk about it. And talk about it a lot.

[S-sweats. He wasn't going to mention it, because he wasn't sure what to call Joseph. It's certainly not love, but there was something there. Something.]

This is...very confusing.

But I think I understand. I certainly feel like I could fall in love with another person. [Talkin' bout you, Masaki.] And if I did, it wouldn't mean I love Jonathan less... or even that I'd love anyone else less.

Still... it hurts to be told that someone you've loved for over a century just isn't in love with you.

[It's not friendship either. Not exactly. But it's something.]

It's hard. People are...really hard.

[She pauses in her brushing to plant a kiss on the top of his head. It felt like he needed it. And so did she.]

I'm sorry that you hurt. That he hurt you, even if he really didn't want to. But...you know now. And that means you don't have to wonder. That might have been hurting you even more.

[That's a way to look at it too, but it felt so final. Like, "well, now you know he could never be in that sort of a relationship with you". That isn't something he knows he can live with.

Dio sits silently for a moment, chewing on his lower lip and ending up puncturing the skin with a fang.]

Thank you for listening. I'm still not sure what I intend to do with him, but... I don't know. I'm not really willing to give up, yet.

[She smooths his hair with her fingers briefly, before going back to brushing his hair.]

You know what he feels now, but that's not an absolute. Just take care of yourself. That's how you can thank me.

He gave a little contented hum at the smoothing of his hair with her hand. He liked it. Simple physical reassurance was quite effective with Dio.

Also, this makes her the second person to tell him to do that recently, the other person being Mikado.]

[She hummed under her breath, stroking through her fingers through his hair again. It really was nice. Soft. Maybe she shouldn't be doing this but...if he liked it...]

No, you're fine. I've been pretty hard on you too, sometimes, even unfair. I'm sorry if I've been unreasonable to you too.

[Dio stopped to turn and look up at her from his spot on the ground, seeming rather confused, because he was.]

How have you been hard or unfair to me...? You've been nothing but kind from my perspective.

Well, I have asked you some pretty hard questions.

[She wrinkled her nose.]

[Dio laughed a little at that, still looking up at her, a smile slowly spreading over his face.]

I've endured worse.

Hell, Jonathan has beheaded me, cut me in half vertically, lit
me on fire, and torn off my arm, at least. So don't worry about it. A little shot in my shoulder? That's nothing.

[She blinked, and her mouth opened, and closed. Well that was...she looked him over, bewildered.]

But...I uh....um.

[She started, and stopped.]

Do I even want to know how...?

[A beat, and:]

Does it mean you'll like me more if I did hurt you?

[Het man, he told you he was a dracula-esque Head Vampire once, right? You don't leave them be, and Jonathan was the Big Hero in his story. It was simply how things went.

That last part got Dio turning a little red though. CAT'S OUTTA THE BAG.]

I... I-uh...

Well I mean...!!! I wouldn't like you less!

[Oh no, oh no, oh no, she knows. She totally knows, that was not smooth. Phew, was it hot in here or was it just Dio???]

[She just didn't realize head actually meant head. Though jeeze, she totally needs to talk about Jonathan about this. Spilt him vertically? Set him on fire?

[She claps her hands to his cheeks.]

[She wasn't wrong but damn.]

[She laughs a little, wiggling in her seat. Oh man oh man so was this why he fought a lot...?]

[Yes, only a little extreme. He was talking about dismemberment. Not that he generally sought dismemberment for fun.]

Mmmm... I think I could see me letting you do that.

[Her hands ease away from his face, so she could comb her fingers through his hair.]

But a crop is small too, and rather nice. Hands just don't seem to do it for me... [Unless they were big, and grabbing more than smacking... though some smacking was also good.]

You never seemed the sort to be into that kind of thing though. I wonder what else it is that I don't know about you.

[She nibbled her lip; he had a good point. Also they might make some satisfying swishing noises.]

I'm learning about it myself. It kinda...slipped out. Maybe it's been there all along.

[She shrugs. Her cheeks feel warm, but she's still smiling.]

Mm, but what else could you find out about me...who knows. It's a mystery.

[Dio laughed a bit at that, obviously in a better mood now than he was in when he'd arrived here, though his eyes were still sore and his head still hurt from three crying not too long ago.]

I think maybe it's something innate. After all, stone people here didn't even know about sex before, and they've ended up surprisingly kinky.

[Like Jonathan. He wouldn't say that though, simply thinking of it.]

[She was glad for that. Glad for the better mood. She always liked it when he smiled.]

Could be? And maybe all the bug biting helped.

I got a little...feisty. At times. And I liked it.

It's good when you find yourself enjoying it, though it's... frightening sometimes.

[Dio had many misgivings about the things that have happened in the past. Thankfully things seem to have calmed down as of recent.]

[She nibbles her lip. Well, she's not sure how she got them from Dio the punch buggie to that, but there you go.]
